LF&S has been owned and operated by Joel Layman since May 2004. Joel took over the reins from his father, Ellard Layman, who started the initial business in 1973, under the name "Ellard Layman Fire Extinguisher Sales & Service.

The business was built on servicing fire extinguishers, but added other elements throughout the years including smoke detectors, fire safety equipment, safety products and consultancy services for fire alarms and kitchen systems.
