Layman Fire & Safety has been owned and operated by Joel Layman since May 2004. Joel took over the reins from his father, Ellard Layman, who started the initial business in 1973, under the name "Ellard Layman Fire Extinguisher Sales & Service. The business was built on servicing fire extinguishers, but added other elements throughout the years including smoke detectors, fire safety equipment, safety products and consultancy services for fire alarms and kitchen systems. The business has always been located on Biesenthal Road, on the border of Pembroke and Petawawa.

The past three years have seen the greatest expansion of services for the business. Joel has pursued additional certification programs including new product update training, kitchen systems certification and a variety of courses pertaining to safety equipment and transportation of dangerous goods. The addition of the safety products line has been developing since 2003 as a natural fit to the current services offered by Layman Fire & Safety.

The business has always prided itself on excellent services, professional advice and fair dealing a tradition that has been passed down from father to son.
